Oh I love this poem Beth, both spoken and read. So perfectly (nostalgically so now) set in that bygone era that seems so long ago now and yet here we are witnessing the madness again. And the song clip as well, spot on!
Thanks so much Jan! Yes, it was weird reading it and remembering all those tv shows, and what it was like in the days before streaming and youtube where you were served up a limited menu. And now we have such a limited political menu it seems with the ALP being oh so careful to not offend the MSM and powerful lobbies. 😟
I love your work , dear Beth. It’s funny, uplifting and subversive .All the attributes I love in good writing , written with passion . Keep going . This particular one makes me want to weep because I too feel the pain . And yet you give us hope - I’ll send a message to my MP . However , he’s a Dutton man - and I’ll most likely get some inane response . Sigh . But I’m working hard with many to get in an independent next year in my electorate , Bradfield.
Keep going . Even if one person benefits from what you write, it’s changing the world. 🙏🏽🥰
Thank you Bindu! And congrats on your SBS Insight 'Leaving a Legacy' appearance, which I've got on an open tab to watch soon. ... And you can always pick a state Senator who might need the evidence of voter concern, and not bother with the Dutton man. Go for those who agree with you or are sitting on the fence. I think it also helps the staff when they get these kind of calls, you can often hear it in their voices that they agree and are glad you called. https://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Contacting_Senators_and_Members
ah yes, Barry McGuire. He actually came and performed at Monash in the late 70s. Still a fantastic performer... altho I guess he wasn't hugely old then, just seemed it to us.
Thank you for delivering another heartfelt piece with so much to digest. I have been joining the rallies with our Palestinian friends for nearly a year now. The writing was on the wall when the land was divided and people were unhomed from their own land. Now the persecution and desecration against indigenous people, against so many people, in so many places, seems unending and it has pushed us to the cradle of hope, the brink of hopelessness. Still we rally, and remember those who have gone, the lights snapped out before their lives had begun.
thanks Saige, and for your words of hope. And your activism. It's a huge commitment and it seems never-ending. Gratitude for all who have been keeping the vigil.

Thank you. The poem was a good start to my Saturday.
I used to love that song back in the day, but I never knew it had a video clip. So sixties!
