I love all of this. I am having the same problem and wonder if it’s sbout readiness (as titles have always come easily before)… your words made me think of the christopher milne book ‘the enchanted places’ / the pic of the great hall reminded me of something I heard somewhere about life being like a sparrow flying through a series of great halls….. then that ‘the great hall’ is in itself an evocative title. Last thought: the tove ditlevsen line that ‘childhood is long and narrow like a coffin and you can’t get out of it on your own’
'you can't get out of it on your own' - lovely. And the image of the sparrow in the Great Hall is an evoative one too. Will salt all these into the brainstorm pot. Best wishes with finding your title. It's a strange anxious state to be in, and feels so wonderful when you finally get it. Like looking for a home in a way.
Loved reading about your title search and the new book, made me ponder again how the selling of a farm affected my kids - it's tough. A title with the word milk also bubbled up for me...Family Milk...but then in your own words, this jumped out: Girl Narrator. Am sure whatever you decide on will be wonderful.
thank you! ...and I think it was not so much farm or not-farm in our family, but the way it happened, and the lack of any structure in the family for talking about things or sharing feelings or expressing grievances. Tough decisions need to be made, but it's the process that makes the difference. One of the mantras in ours was 'If you're going to get angry let's not talk about it.' ... And re the title - yes, I think my friend who suggested Milk Pudding was getting closer. 'Milk Pony' was one that came up for me, but unless I write a poem specifically about that, it would be too obscure. 'Milk Girl' ? Hmmm.... Interesting. Will throw it in the pot and see if it bubbles to the top.
Thinking something like.
“No Fun Dysfunction”
As in there’s no fun in a dysfunctional family
haha, great. Will add it to mix.
